back to reality

Well it has been a long time, we have had school holidays and house moving, which I new was something I hated, but having not done it for six years had forgotten quite how horrid it is.  We had the silly idea that if we got the removal men to move all the furniture then we could move all the other stuff ourselves with the car, and that as we had had a really good clear out for selling the house then we were really pretty much there!  Wrong.  It took us three days to get it all empty and have a good clean up and then another week to sort out our stuff in the new house.  Where does all this rubbish come from, and surely we don't need it all and can we not just chuck it all in a big skip?
Anyway, I decided that I would go through my wardrobe and try to wear a different thing every day, and if I couldn't find anything or wouldn't try an outfit then it had to go.  I did quite well for a couple of days and then it got a bit tricky.  My children got to choose my outfits, and I put my foot down with some ideas.  Here are couple of our attempts
Stripey dress from second hand shop, lacey top H&M from sister for christmas pressie.
I was tempted to remove my head with this one, and my legs.  top H&M, shorts FrankeE.  This was chosen by my younger child.

tan suit

I bought a tan suit at the salvation army shop a couple of weeks ago.  It was quite nice, the main selling point was in fact that it was a Hobbs tan suit and it was $15NZ and it was the perfect size apart from the skirt being a bit long.  In the great train of things happening at the house, my daughter did a styling and modelling shoot for me with her friend, using all my stuff.

I made a new blue dress

I made a dress out of some of my Spoonflower material.  A friend had craft night at her house which got me motivated to get a start, I took along my duct-tape dummie, an old sheet (for pattern making) pins a pen and some scissors.  I got a little carried away, having an audience, and was a little gung-ho with the pattern making and scissors and new fabric, but it all turned out ok in the end.  I made some covered buttons to go on the back of the dress which I liked and had a go at shirring, which I also liked and must do again some time.  Today my older child had the afternoon off school, so I badgered her and her friend into doing some styling and modelling for me.

There was great pouting and preening going on and fun was had by all.
I also had my photo taken for the style section of the local paper, whilst wearing this dress, which made me happy, especially as my husband had joked to me that this very thing would happen before I left the house.
They also did a styling of a nice suit I had bought at the op-shop, but that is another post.

Bonnie and Buttermilk

today i came across a clothing site that I liked very much.  Bonnie and Buttermilk are in Berlin I think, I can't find the translation button.  The fabrics are so sweet, reminds me of a skirt my sister found at the tip many years ago.  Lots of skirts and t-shirts and hooded tops and there are so many of them in different colour-ways on the site and I would like lots of them.  I seem to have picked lots of clouds. Hmm.  Cute styling too.
My computer is playing up, I am afraid it may be on the way out which is a bit of a worry.

D&G Autumn winter/12

I am reposting this D&G fashion collection from a pair & a spare because it was so gorgeous.
to see the rest of the collection click on the link.

I want a dress like this!  The socks are cute, and I am sure I have an old brown velvet curtain in a cupboard somewhere. I could mock up one of these.

cowgirls

I had an urge to find some cowgirl outfits, the old Wild West etc.  There were some rather dodgy modern outfits that first popped up on my screen search, so had to re-define my wording.  Some ideas following on from a previous post on cowboys here.  (edit 30th july 2012) just found this cowgirl post on dust jacket attic which is fabulous.
Here is Bridgitte Bardot in "Viva Maria!" (1965):  Gorgeous Bridgitte, I thought this looked quite moderne.

Bill Cunningham

Last night I went to see the Bill Cunningham film about an eighty year old fashion photographer for the New York times.  I was expecting a film about glamour and beautiful people, and it was about this amazingly sweet man who loved clothes. "Would that New York and the world, had more such exceptionally unique, passionate, honest, egalitarian and unfettered , kind souls." (Quote Jeffrey Wirsing)

snapping Anna Wintour there is a gallery of photos from this link.
ANy way I would recommend it to anyone who wants their view of the human spirit to be upgraded.

Editta Sherman his next door neighbour and photographer of the stars.

and Iris Apfel was an inspiration. Enjoy what you wear, enjoy life.
